What is Mediation?

Mediation is a facilitated negotiation between two or more parties to create a mutually agreed upon resolution to a conflict or disagreement.  The mediator is a trained, impartial professional who works to facilitate solutions that are acceptable to both parties.

Mediation offers several advantages to other forms of dispute resolution.

  • Both parties retain control, they do not have to live with a decision that someone else (an arbitrator or judge) made for them.

  • It is quicker and less expensive than going to court.

  • It is a private and confidential process.

  • It is more likely to generate win - win solutions.
